Effexor

Effexor is the brand name of the drug venlafaxine. It is an anti-psychotic drug used for treating depression. It belongs to the class of serotonin – nor epinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRIs). It was produced by Wyeth in 1993 now distributed by Pfizer. It is preferably used for treating social phobia, panic disorder, major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder.

Mechanism of action

Dosage and treatment

It comes in tablet form and usually taken orally in the usual adult dose of 25mg, 50mg, 75mg, 100mg, 150mg and 225mg. The usual dose for panic disorder is 37.5mg once a day. The usual dose of anxiety disorder is 75mg orally once a day. Usual dose for depression is 37.5mg orally once a day or 25mg orally 3 times a day.
